Feature: New Pure Acrylic Tape Constructions Added to the Core Series™ Portfolio

New FBA 1115 and FBA 8315 Products offer a secure bond to foams

Avery Dennison Performance Tapes recently introduced two new products to its Core Series™ Portfolio — FBA 1115 and FBA 8315. These tape constructions feature pure acrylic adhesive, an adhesive category added to the portfolio in 2021. FBA 1115 and FBA 8315 offer additional options for providing a secure bond to a wide variety of foams.

FBA 1115 and FBA 8315: The Impact of Pure Acrylic Adhesive

As mentioned above, FBA 1115 and FBA 8315 both feature pure acrylic adhesive. FBA 1115 comes as a transfer tape with a paper liner, while FBA 8315 is a double-coated tape with a PET carrier and a paper liner.

Pure acrylic adhesives are plasticizer-resistant and designed for bonding to materials such as vinyl (PVC), polyester and ether urethane, engineered plastics and metals. The plasticizer resistance means FBA 1115 and FBA 8315 can provide a secure and long-lasting bond to a wide variety of plastics.

FBA 1115 and FBA 8315 are suited for applications such as: foam bonding with polyether and polyester urethane, EPDM, PVC, leather/alcantara bonding, and vinyl helmet decals. (They are  not recommended for LSE materials, though the Core Series features a variety of tape constructions that are engineered for such surfaces.)

The Marketplace Need for Pure Acrylics

The Core Series Portfolio features a breadth of Avery Dennison adhesive technologies. And it is designed to make it easy for you to identify a tape needed for an application by answering just four questions:

The Core Series Portfolio features a breadth of Avery Dennison adhesive technologies. And it is designed to make it easy for you to identify a tape needed for an application by answering just four questions:

  • What is the material being laminated to?

  • What is the surface energy of the substrate being adhered to?

  • Are there any end use requirements?

  • What is the desired tape construction?

We are continually working to grow and enhance the Core Series as applications, adhesives, and foam technologies evolve. Fact is, as engineering priorities have changed over the years, OEMs have changed the substrates used in many applications. The adhesives counted on just a few years ago may no longer be sufficient for those applications. One substrate we have seen substantial growth in, across many industries, is foams.

So part of the effort to evolve the Core Series has been to work closely with material manufacturers. This work has included in-depth studies to make sure our adhesives are fully compatible with the industry’s latest foams and felts. Such studies, conducted at our ISO 17025 certified Painesville Innovation Center, have resulted in the additions of FBA 1115 and FBA 8315 to the Core Series Portfolio. The bonding studies helped identify the marketplace needs for these pure acrylic adhesives.

Best-in-class adhesive products from a global leader

The bottom line: FBA 1115 and FBA 8315 are best-in-class products from a global leader in pressure-sensitive adhesives. They are engineered for challenging applications, and can help suppliers comply with many OEM specs. And because they are included in the Avery Dennison Core Series, it is easy to determine if they are suited for a particular application.

As Core Series Portfolio constructions, FBA 1115 and FBA 8315 are available with a one-roll minimum order quantity, four-day lead time and two-year warranty. Sample rolls are available. Contact your Avery Dennison account manager, or visit tapes.averydennison.com/coreseries to learn more.
