News release: Avery Dennison introduces electrode fixing tapes for EV battery cells

Tapes are engineered to enhance safety and efficiency in EV batteries.

PAINESVILLE, OHIO (April 9, 2024) - Avery Dennison today introduced  new electrode fixing tapes for use in the assembly of electric vehicle (EV) batteries. The new product is the latest addition to the company’s portfolio of functional bonding and protection tapes engineered to make EV batteries safer, more efficient and easier to assemble.

“Our electrode fixing tapes build on our decades of success in supporting the needs of OEMs and automotive suppliers with a wide range of functional bonding and protection tapes,” said Scott Krusinski, market manager - Energy Storage, Automotive, Avery Dennison Performance Tapes North America. “In particular, our portfolio helps EV manufacturers solve key challenges, such as reducing flammability, boosting dielectric strength and optimizing design and assembly.”

Electrode fixing tapes are a specialized adhesive tape used to bind multilayer electrode constructions consisting of current collector foils, anode and cathode material and separator films in EV battery cells. The electrode fixing tapes are available with polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and polypropylene (PP) plastic facestocks. The PP facestock is chemically inert to prevent self-discharge due to DMT redox shuttle.

The electrode fixing tapes feature:

  • Electrolyte-compatible acrylic adhesives

  • Highly visible green color

  • Self-wound, liner-less construction with various widths available on plastic cores

The tapes are manufactured in the United States to ensure compliance with the Inflation Reduction Act.
